About Tom

I am a 63-year-old Marine Corps veteran and a retiree from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers after 30 plus years. I still do work for the USACE on an intermittent basis as a construction representative. My number one passion and hobby is cycling. In 2015 while working full time I rode over 2000 miles.

Riding across the country is a goal I set for myself several years ago. The most common response I hear from people when I tell them what I am planning is “you’re crazy!”. I know there will be days of extreme heat and cold, high winds and rain, heavy road traffic and long roads with no one spotted for hours. I know lodging and food in many locations will be scarce and whatever I can find for the night I will have to live with. I expect sun burns, wind burns, sore muscles, and even a few bumps and scrapes. Most people would never have the desire to push their mind and body to these limits, but I’m excited to see the new sites around each bend in the road and meet the many interesting people on the way.

In the end I will be proud of what I accomplished and hopefully for another adventure. For my wife and son’s sanity of knowing where I’m at when cell service doesn’t work I will be carrying a “SPOT” GPS tracker. So follow along each day as I log my adventure of a lifetime.
