RIDE NOTES…
Longest day of riding so far (69 miles). El Centro, CA to Yuma, AZ. Took several wrong turns but eventually found my way. Temps were pretty high, 90’s all day, but anyone who knows me knows that this is my kind of weather, I love the heat. Spent lots of time on frontage roads today. The good part is that there is very little traffic, but the bad part is that they are horrible for riding. When most people think of frontage roads they think of smaller roads off of a major highways to allow access to businesses but out west here these frontage roads are actually just the old road that was there prior to the interstate. These roads have been abandoned for quite some time and maintenance ended a LONG time ago! My advice would be to avoid these old frontage roads if possible. I think I will stay on the interstate as much as possible for a while. Yuma claims to be the sunniest city in the WORLD with 339 days of sunshine per year. It was sunny for sure today!
Bart found me on a frontage road in the afternoon with some tacos and Gatorade then I met him at the Candlewood Suites right off of the interstate in Yuma, AZ. Nice new hotel, free dinner of hamburgers, potato chips, and beer! Also had some free laundry, so I now have clean clothes for a few days.
Hit another Milestone today. Arizona state line. Done with California. 7 states to go.
I’m enjoying all the support from this website. I love the comments, compliments, and well wishes. thank you to all the folks encouraging me on, thanks to you this ride gets better every day.
