RIDE NOTES…
Rode a short 35 miles today from Alpine, TX to Marathon, TX. Marathon is a nice little tourist town with several good places to eat and a nice clean room at the Marathon Motel. I got into town around 1PM, checked into my motel, unloaded the bags on my bike, took a quick shower, then rode a mile or so into town for lunch.
I spent some time today reviewing my maps to estimate the rest of my trip, or at least the rest of Texas anyway. Texas is such a huge state. Its hard to believe but after 8 days I’m only about 25% through it. At this rate I estimate I won’t be out of Texas until early June!
I rode back into town for supper but there weren’t any places open. I met up with some people on the street so I joined them for conversation and beer. We eventually ordered lots of pizza and just hung out for about 4 hours. What a colorful bunch of people out here… I ended up riding back to the motel in the rain and got a good nights sleep in my quaint clean motel room.
