Tracking & Navigation

Somehow I need to be able to navigate my route, not get lost, and let others track my progress.

I plan to use several items to navigate along my route.  First I have my iPhone and I have purchased the app “Cyclemeter”.   I was out riding several months ago and forgot my Garmin GPS so I had to search for a quick app to use while I was riding.  I’ve now used it over the past year and  it seems to work great for my needs.

Second I have my Garmin Forerunner 310xT.  I like the Garmin because it has elevation on the main screen and I can see it at a glance anytime.  The iPhone app has this as well, but it goes blank after a minute or so and I don’t like setting it to stay on and run my battery down quicker.

Third I have a SPOT Gen3 GPS tracker.  The SPOT although not “live” tracking has a lot of cool features that could be handy.  The SPOT essentially drops a pin every 5 minutes and has a website that others can track me as I progress.  The unit is relatively cheap but does require a subscription service.  One of the features of the SPOT is an SOS button that will notify local 911 first responders and provide them my coordinates.  Hope I never need it, but…  www.findmespot.com/en/

    1. All this newer technology makes this so easy. Bart has also been a great help in showing me how to use and navigate all the electronics I have with me.
