notes RIDE NOTES…

Left Van Horn, TX early in the dark with the headlight and tail light on to get an head start on the long ride to Marfa, TX.  78 miles with very strong headwinds all day.  10 hours of continuous riding with really nowhere to stop all day.  Stopped at the dairy queen for dinner in Marfa to supper.  It had bad reviews but anything is excellent after riding for 10 straight hours.  I am checked into the El Cosmic Campground.  My accommodations for the night are basically a canvas tent on a raised platform.  It has electricity but other than that nothing too fancy and it still costs over $100 for the night!  There is no heat in the tent, but there is an electric matress pad so I should be fine.  The El Cosmic Campground is home to the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music & Love held annually each fall.  I’m not coming back…  I don’t actually see the attraction of these artsy Texas towns.  I went to the local bar (Lost Horse Saloon) and I was still not impressed.  Dirty little bar with expensive beer.  Hopefully I can just keep riding through the next artsy town, but after 78 miles today I had no choice but to stay here.  There are very few people at the campground and everyone pretty much keeps to themselves.  No TV in the tent so I can’t even keep up with what “The Donald” is up to today.  Off to Alpine, TX tomorrow.
