notes RIDE NOTES…

It’s my 3rd day in Louisiana and today I rode 54 miles from Eunice, LA to Livonia, LA.  So much for what I was saying about easy riding in LA.  The areas in between towns isn’t bad with roads with wide berms but most towns are not very bicycle friendly.  Lots of bad roads, no bike lanes, and poor or no sidewalks.  Also I rode across a 4 mile bridge with no bike lane.  Traffic was light, but its still an uncomfortable feeling.

Hit up a McDonalds 30 miles in for lunch and then another 24 miles to the Oak Tree Inn in Lavonia, LA.  I ate at Penny’s Diner next to the motel, did laundry, and calculated my ride for tomorrow.

Went to bed early.  Its unreal how much you can sleep after riding all day.  It’s been very humid the last few days.  The humidity isn’t too bad while you’re riding, but as soon as you stop you really notice it.

I passed an area where all of the FEMA trailers used after Katrina are being stored.  There were trailers as far as you could see.  I was told by a local that FEMA has paid close to 3 Million dollars to the local property owner in storage fees.  By the looks of them the trailers seem virtually worthless.  Seems like another gov’t organization spending tax dollars unwisely.
