RIDE NOTES…
63 Mile ride today from Live Oak, FL to Starke, FL. Due to such high heat and humidity I started riding at first light and rode 23 miles to Lake City, FL for breakfast, then I rode another 40 miles to the Red Roof Inn. Starke, FL is a dirty, nasty little town.
I have been riding on SR-90 for quite a while now, probably about 2/3 of my ride through 5 states has been on this road.
Armadillos are the most common road kill I see along the southern US. I have gained this useless bit of information from staring at the road berms for 2 months and 2600 miles straight now.
I’ve rode many many, miles on the Walkin Lawton trail. Lawton Chiles was an interesting politician who actually walked 1003 miles from Pensacola, FL to Key West, FL during his campaign for the US Senate.
There is another cyclist at the hotel tonight. He is riding from Naples, FL to Boston, MA. He is riding for charity. He’s been on the road for 5 days and will complete his ride in a little over a month.
